In December last year, my home country, South Korea, faced a terrifying rupture in its democracy. The president, driven by corruption and thirst for power, attempted a military coup—using armed soldiers to try to kill civilians and cling to power indefinitely.
But the people did not back down.
With courage, unity, and relentless resistance, citizens rose up in protest across the nation. They refused to let injustice win. They stood for democracy. And they won. The corrupt and violent leader was removed from office.
Now, just six months later, South Korea is holding a new presidential election—a chance to rebuild, to heal, and to choose a better future.
This video captures the peaceful, hopeful drive my wife, my friend, and I took through Berlin to cast our overseas ballots. The sky was clear, the sun warm, the clouds gentle—as if nature, too, was rooting for change.
The result of our votes will be announced on Tuesday, June 3.
May this collective act of belief and participation light a path forward for our country.
We drove with hope in our hearts. May that hope to carry our community into a brighter tomorrow.
