Pakistan's Islam-based hatred of LGBTQ people must stop

On June 9, a news report came out that a Pakistani man had attempted to open a gay club in Abbottabad, a city in the north. Soon after his attempt, he was detained by authorities and sent to a mental hospital. In this video, I delve into this story and how it reflects the state of LGBTQ rights in Pakistan (or should I say, the lack of them). I also explain the Islamic roots of the laws that demonize and dehumanize same-sex relationships in Pakistan and across the Muslim world.

And finally, I explain exactly what Islam and Pakistan's authorities get so fundamentally wrong. To quote the UN: "Human rights are non-negotiable. They belong to every member of the human family — no matter who they are or whom they love. Let’s continue working to build a peaceful, just world in which all people are free and equal in dignity and rights."
