Sideia Catholic Mission Station is one of the iconic names and places that existed in the Bwanabwana Rural Local Level Government Area in the Samarai Murua District of Milne Bay Province in Papua New Guinea. It is located on the northern part of the Sideia Island, which is just across on the eastern side from the Kanakope Point of the Milne Bay mainland and as well as from the China Straits Channel.
The Sideia Catholic Mission Station was one of the popular stations that was built, run, operated and managed by the Catholic Arch Diocese of Alotau, and since the colonial times and still is existing and operating to day with the basic services of Health Centre, a Girls Skills Technical Training Institute (Vocational Centre), a Community School, a Store, a Wharf and of course Catholic Church. It used to run and operate a Sawmill, however, this had closed down many years ago.
Once a vibrant and colorful Mission Station, though still existing and operating and providing the main basic services to the rural communities, but has since scaled down and no longer as vibrant as it used to be, and surely, this is the same picture one will see and witnessed right across many Provinces in Papua New Guinea and especially in the very remote, Districts and or Government or Other Outstations or Stations.
But despite and though maybe scaled down in the performances levels of some of the vital service, Sideia Catholic Mission Station is still existing and operating and supporting the Milne Bay Provincial Government in providing the most needed basic services to the rural communities, of the Milne Bay Province.
With that, I hope you will enjoy watching.
