ABOUT THE VIDEO
IKOUM is a poetic and transcultural music duo formed by Cameroonian artist Just Wôan and Canadian musician Kamila Nasr. Their name means “richesse” in Bafia, the ancestral language spoken by Just Wôan — and it defines their work: rich in sounds, stories, rhythms, and resonance.
This live performance of “Kantara” was recorded in the intimate Salle Botrel at the Maison de la culture Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (NDG), in Montréal.
KANTARA is a doorway — a bridge between continents, cultures, and inner landscapes. In this live session, Just Wôan & Kamila invite you into their singular musical world: a sensual, hybrid fusion of Central African groove, classical textures, Persian and Celtic echoes, and improvisational freedom. Their collaboration is both rooted and nomadic — shaped by a decade of global touring, artistic residencies, and an enduring curiosity for sound and spirit.
With the deep, rhythmic soul of Just Wôan’s Bafia vocals and melodic bass playing, and the ethereal elegance of Kamila’s harp and harmonic layers, the duo crafts a music that feels ancestral and futuristic all at once — intimate, cinematic, and deeply human.
KANTARA marks the beginning of a larger journey.
