11:58 PM - IFD Firefighters make an aggressive attack on a vacant structure at 2322 Shelby St. successfully protecting two popular businesses on either side. Both Garfield Brewery and Helm Coffee sustained some fire damage to their roofs and water damage to the inside but other wise remained unscathed. Neighbors say the vacant structure has been frequented by squatters. The cause is under investigation.
Crews arrived to find heavy fire, threatening both exposures and deployed 4 handlines and 2 master streams to bring the fire under control. 1 hour 23 minutes. Command ordered defensive operations only and the vacant structure collapsed shortly after. No injuries.
