The Orthodox Christian Studies Center of Fordham University is pleased to present the 2025 "Orthodox Scholars Preach" series, featuring short sermons by Orthodox Christian scholars for Triodion, Lent, and Easter.
The sermon for the Sunday of the Prodigal Son is given by Dr. Nadieszda Kizenko, Professor of History at the State University of New York at Albany, where she specializes in Russian and East European history, with a particular focus on religion and culture. Her scholarship includes the acclaimed books A Prodigal Saint: Father John of Kronstadt and the Russian People (Pennsylvania State University Press/Studies of the Harriman Institute, 2000), which explores the life and influence of a prominent Russian Orthodox priest, and Good for the Souls: A History of Confession in the Russian Empire (Oxford University Press, 2021), a comprehensive examination of the practice of confession in Russia. Her most recent book is a co-edited volume, Orthodoxy in Two Manifestations? The Conflict in Ukraine as Expression of a Fault Line in World Orthodoxy (Berlin: Peter Lang, 2022).
