The first step is to make sure that I have every color around me, so I don't need to stand up all the time and search for them in my drawers. I bring the pastels, watercolor pencils, and watercolor paint to my table, then I start repainting the previously carved, sealed, and dried faceplate.
Sometimes I'm starting the repainting with coloring the lips white, so the colors added on the top of it can be a bit brighter and more intensive.
I'm using a red color on the cheeks, blending very well with different brushes and a cotton pad.
I'm always coloring between the lips darker. The intensity depends on the final look, but I'm always starting with a lighter base, and then adding darker colors if I want to create dark lips, just like in this video.
Unfortunately, some parts of the repainting video are missing :( You can't see how I'm adding the second layer to the cheeks and lips, also how I'm sprinkling the freckles, but you can see my freckles-making technique in other videos, that I shared previously.
Usually, I start to draw the base for the eyebrows in the first layer, but this time I didn't, so in the second layer I'm adding them too. I use a lighter brown shade and a thin, wide brush. If I make mistakes, I'm correcting them with the white magic sponge. In the past, I used an eraser too, but I noticed that they made a mess sometimes, so with the white magic sponge I can clean better.
When I'm happy with the base shape, I add individual hair strokes, usually with a brown watercolor pencil. I'm also adding dark brown or black shades to the brows, so they will look more real.
And, that is it. This is how I've been painting my Blythe's doll faces recently:)
