We’re starting a brand new challenge – an A to Z of Scotland!
For letter A, we head to Aberlady, East Lothian, for a cold but beautiful winter day trip exploring the Aberlady Bay Local Nature Reserve.
Aberlady Bay was the first local nature reserve in Britain, designated in 1952, and it’s packed with wildlife, coastal views, dunes, wetlands, and fascinating geological features. We take a walk along the waterfront, cross the (slightly terrifying!) boardwalk, spot sea buckthorn, and soak in the views across the Firth of Forth – all while battling freezing winds ❄️🌬️
This A–Z challenge is all about slow travel, family-friendly day trips, and discovering hidden gems in Scotland without overplanning. Aberlady is somewhere we wouldn’t normally visit – which makes it the perfect place to start.
After our walk, we explore Aberlady village, learn a bit about its history as a market town and former port, and warm up with coffee and lunch from a local shop.
If you enjoy Scottish travel vlogs, coastal walks, nature reserves, and off-the-beaten-path places, this one’s for you!
