THE MAISONETTES Heartache Avenue EXTENDED VERSION

A one hit wonder from Britain, 'The Maisonettes and their catchy single 'Heartache Avenue'. As learned as I believe I am about the retro years of pop culture, every so often I come across a recording I have never heard from the era and this is one such track. It was trawling through the Aussie charts from 40 years ago that I saw this listing. Entering our Top 100 on June 13, 1983 at #97, it spent just that one solitary week there, before dropping off!

Formed in 1982 and disbanding two years later, The Maisonettes entered the British chart in December of the year they formed with 'Heartache Avenue' and it would rise to #7 and go on to a #12 in Canada. Half a dozen further singles were issued, but only one scratched even the British Independent chart. The front man of The Maisonettes had been part of City Boy which scored a big hit with '5.7.0.5' which is on my channel. Laurence 'Lol' Mason was the lead in both acts and sadly passed away in 2019.

This extended version has been used and a performance from Top Of The Pops, re-edited by me to accommodate the extra 90 seconds of duration. There is such a retro feel to this song; almsot as if it was a throwback to the 60's and groups like The Four Tops or Smokey Robinson & The Miracles. I really enjoyed being introduced to this wonderful song this week, even if I am 40 years too late!
