Howdy ya’ll,
Let’s look at the oldest pictures of Angkor Wat, modern day Cambodia! Once an essential part of the Kingdom of Siam, and before that, founded by the Angkorian Empire, it is still the largest temple complex in the world (by land area).
This massive temple complex, which you most likely have seen before, will be discussed today, accompanied by the oldest known photographs of Angkor Wat which I could locate (I have never seen these images showcased before). They will be from the mid to late 1800’s, a few from the early 1900’s, a couple modern photographs sprinkled in (as well as one or two Old World drawings from Pre-Photography times).
We will also discuss the kingdom of Siam, and just how vast and beautiful that kingdom was. Finally, we will tie in the use of Siamese Crowns, and the unique shape and possible dual purpose of these creations. I will also make a brief reference to Wooden Nickels and a great video he made recently. Enjoy!
