Šator is a mountain in the west of Bosnia and Herzegovina that separates Livanj from Glamočko field. The highest peak of the mountain is Veliki Šator with a height of 1,873 meters. The starting point of the ascent to the top is the run-down Runolist motel and the beautiful Šatorsko lake, which is located at an altitude of 1,488 meters.
We got to the lake by exiting the Livno-Bosansko Grahovo road near the village of Gornje Peulje onto the gravel road that leads to the lake. There is a sign for Šatorsko jezero on the road. There are 16 kilometers of gravel road from the main road to the lake, which is in quite bad condition in some parts, so it is advisable to have an all-terrain vehicle. At all points where there are turns on the gravel road, signs point to the lake. There is a large parking area near the lake.
The hiking trail leads from the motel to Šatorski jezero and bypasses it on the left side and rises steeply to the northeast over the rocks to a pass from which there is a beautiful view of the lake. Above the pass, we lose the view of the lake because it is obscured by the peak of Greda (1,843m). The hiking trail passes from the left side of the Gredo peak to the saddle below Veliki Šator, from where it rises to the top first through the juniper forest, and below the top itself along the rockery.
From the starting point to the top and back there is a total of 5.3 kilometers with a height difference of 405 meters per track.
The hiking trail is clearly visible all the way, although it is not well marked (the markings are old and faded).
You can't see Šatorsko lake from the top!
