Afternoon Tea With A Hedonist | The Picture Of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde

Join me as we explore Oscar Wilde's novel: The Picture of Dorian Gray, and how it relates to hedonism, aestheticism, and the decadent movement. We will re-create the tea-cakes mentioned in the novel and understand how afternoon tea emerged during this era!

RECIPE (tea-cakes)
22g butter
200 g flour
1/8th tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
1 egg
120 g warm milk
1/2 tbsp yeast

Method:
1. Flour, a little salt, and a tbsp sugar mixed
2. Rub in the butter
3. Add some currants about 50g
4. Separately, beat the egg and stir to the yeast
5. Add these to the flour mixture and warm milk, make it into a paste and knead
6. Let them rise until doubled
7. Turn the oven to 200 Celsius, shape and let rise again
8. Bake for 15-30 minutes
