Its here, this is the world’s first 8K action camera from Insta360. I’m always impressed by Insta360 for bringing out all the new tech every year. First we have the Leica one inch action cam, then we have the world’s smallest GO series action camera. And now we have the first 8K action cam. And it doesn’t end there. We also have the new AI technology, giving us the amazing lowlight performance. This is the first time ever, you can use your action camera for lowlight shooting. And the result is pretty amazing.
One thing I really. Love about this camera is, the flip up screen. It gives you the full screen of what you are actually filming. Unlike most of the other action cams. You only get a little square screen in front. You barely see what your framing is. Some people think the flip up screen might be easy to break. But let’s be honest, how often you drop your camera? I rather have the flip up screen so I can frame up my shot easier.
So what’s the benefit of having an 8K sensor? You might think you don’t really need 8K. But since you have double up the resolution. The oversample 8K gives you
One little thing I didn’t like was, every time when switching modes. The de-warp goes back to default “Ultra”. And like the Insta360 GO 3, the de-warp isn’t as straight as the GoPro Hero 12 or DJI Action 4. But that’s an easy fix in post. But just something to beware of.
Overall, I think the Insta360 Ace Pro is probably the best action cam insta360 have ever produced. And there are so many things that the Ace Pro perform better than the GoPro Hero 12. Especially the Lowlight performance, HDR mode and the oversampling 4K.
I would like to see some firmware updates in the future about this camera.
10Bit color. The DJI Action did that on their camera through, I’m sure Insta360 can do it as well.
8K only limited to 24p, it would be great to see 25p in the future update
The Puremode does not support flat color profile. It makes the day time scene a bit hard to match in post
Note: I wasn’t be able to get any ND filters for this Ace Pro. And all went back-ordered. So I tried my best to test it out on a cloudy day and sunset time.
