What is a pinched nerve?
What is a pinched nerve? Neurosurgeon Dr Arun L Naik discusses in this video.
Pinched nerve is one of the common causes of your back pain. Pinched nerve is seen in slipped disc, disc bulge, spondylitis and herniated discs. Pinched nerve causes neck pain back pain. Symptoms of pinched nerve are back pain, tingling numbness pins and needle and weakness. Treatment of pinched nerve is by medications. Physiotherapy for pinched nerve gives good relief. Exercises for pinched nerve relieve pain fully.
These spinal nerves are vulnerable at a narrow space called foramen on the side of your spinal bone. These nerves can be pinched due to many causes, collectively leading to what is called a radiculopathy pain. When pinched, these nerves send pain signals to the brain or even lose functionality, resulting in tingling or numbness.

How to Diagnose Pinched Nerves
The diagnosis of a compressed nerve in the spine is important to ensure you get the proper treatment. When i see a patient suspected of pinched nerves, I start with a physical and neuro exam. During this exam, I take a thorough the medical history. I may ask for some tests like x-rays, CT scans or MRIs to help determine the cause of pinched nerves.
What is the Treatment for Pinched Nerve in Back
Main stay of treatment of pinched nerve is medications. They get good relief with these. These medications may have to be continued for many months, sometimes lifelong. I also advise a short course of physiotherapy. I may ask for spinal braces to rest your back bone for a few days. 95% of pinched nerves get relieved with this modality. About 5% of patients have severe pinched nerves causing severe pain; they may need surgical intervention.
