Anton Webern (1883–1945)
Langsamer Satz (1905)
David Carreon, violin I
Monty Guo, violin II
Justin Chen, viola
Noah Oshiro, cello
Composed early in Webern’s life, Langsamer Satz reveals the composer’s deep affinity for late-Romantic lyricism, long before his embrace of atonality and the twelve-tone method. Inspired by a hiking trip with his future wife, the work unfolds with lush harmonies, heartfelt melodic lines, and a glowing sense of intimacy. It is a rare glimpse into the expressive, emotional world of a young Webern.
This performance was presented as part of the 2024 season of Orvieto Musica in Orvieto, Italy.
