This is a chemistry tutorial on finding group, period and block of an element in periodic table in Malayalam language. This will be useful for students of std10, std11 ,std12.
The period of a given element corresponds to the principal quantum number of the Valence shell.
The block of a given element corresponds to the type of orbital which receive the last electron.
The group of a given element is predicted from the number of electrons in the Valence shell or/and penultimate shell as follows:-
For s-block elements ,the group number is equal to the number of valence electrons.
For p-block elements ,the group number is equal to 10+number of electrons electrons in the Valence shell .
For d-block elements the group number is equal to the number of electrons in a (n-1) d subshell + the number of electrons in Valence shell .
