Steamed Hams But It's Kichikuou Rance

Don't ever let me get the flu again. I get silly ideas and then become way too invested in them.
I came up with this back in March, which explains why I'm uploading a Steamed Hams video in June, but I thought, "What kind of Steamed Hams video can I make that nobody else would likely come up with? Oh, I know, how about the Rance series? I just finished playing Kichikuou Rance and I'm still hungry, making this might hold me over for a bit on that Rance Quest hype."

Q&A:

Q: I've never heard of Kichikuou Rance before. Where can I buy it?
A: It's free (as of 2006), actually! I can't provide a download link here since the game's not exactly YouTube-friendly, but it's not hard to find.

Q: I HAVE heard of Kichikuou Rance, and the way you did the map screen in this video is grossly inaccurate!
A: First of all that's not a question. Secondly, yeah, I wanted to include a proper map, but this video would have taken like a bazillion years longer than it already did. A fan-made map of Springfield exists, but it doesn't have all the locations shown in this video. In particular it's missing Skinner's house, the most important location in all of the Steamed Hams lore!

Q: Why'd you redraw all the portraits from scratch? Seems like a lot of effort for a shitty Steamed Hams video.
A: Because I'm a perfectionist and simply cutting the characters out from screencaps would have made them clash with the different backgrounds. Plus many of the characters' portraits were taken from videos of varying quality, which would have made them clash further.

Q: In the preview you posted on Twitter, the CG of Seymour sneaking out the window was done in the same pixel art style as the portraits. Why did you switch to screencaps for the full video?
A: While I love each and every pixel portrait I made, I wasn't too happy with how my attempt at a pixel CG came out. Looked more like something out of Mario Teaches Typing than Kichikuou Rance, you know what I'm saying?

Q: The credits say there are over 20,000 frames. I don't believe you.
A: You're right to suspect me! I ended up cutting the video in half after I finished it because there was a whole bunch of crap that had nothing to do with Steamed Hams and it ended up going way off track. You only see two armies in this video. The original version had six armies, and each one had their own turn. I ended up cutting out about five minutes of irrelevant content, so the actual frame count is probably closer to 15,000. I liked the cut content though, so I may upload it later, either as a separate video or as part of a "director's cut".

Q: How long did this even take you?!
A: About three months. I was sure the meme would be dead before I could finish the video, but hey, I did it for the art, not the views.

Q: What did you use to make this?
A: I'm a bit old-school when it comes to both pixel art and animation, so I used Paint Shop Pro 7 for the portraits and custom battlers, and Flash 5 for the animation. I wouldn't recommend either of these however, since the versions of these programs that I used can no longer be obtained legally. Flash MX 2004 is almost as old as Flash 5 though, and you can get an activation code for it straight from Adobe's website for free! You just have to dig around a bit on the internet to find the program itself.
