This upload contains two versions of Dead Or Alive's classic "Far Too Hard", which closed out the "Sophisticated Boom Boom" album (on the American version, the order I knew first and still prefer) and was included as the B-side to "Lover Come Back To Me". As it was the closest thing to a ballad they had ever recorded up to this point, it stands in stark contrast to the rest of their catalogue throughout the 1980's. It was never remixed or extended, and was only played live during the 1984 and 1985 tours, promoting their first two albums on Epic Records. The song is about narcissism, and the pleasures most young men discover in early puberty. "But it's a dangerous direction", Pete cautions in the lyrics, "Men should never make it with their own reflections". He was taking self-love beyond a private session to enjoying himself to the fullest. Who could he possibly love more than himself? If a ballad is atypical for Dead Or Alive, a song about masturbating is atypical for ballads!
Version one is a straightforward extended mix; the first part is just Pete singing over the orchestral arrangement, then a lengthy extended instrumental section (both orchestral AND full band arrangement), with Pete showing up just in time to close the mix out in style. The second version here, which I've titles "La Version Sans L'Orchestre" is exactly that- a version of the song WITHOUT the strings section, mostly just drum, bass, and Pete. I did not include the full vocal in that, I felt this was a nice place to showcase the talents of Steve Coy's percussion and Mike Percey's bass, so the second verse becomes more or less THEIR solo.
