Severe fog has brought major transportation across Pakistan to a standstill, forcing the closure of multiple motorway sections and causing international flight diversions in Karachi.
According to media reports, thick fog across Punjab, including Lahore and surrounding regions, led to the temporary closure of key motorways. The M-2 motorway from Lahore to Kot Momin, M-3 from Lahore to Darkhana, M-11 Lahore–Sialkot, and M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakeem were shut down due to dangerously low visibility.
Motorway Police Central Region spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed stated that motorway closures were implemented to prevent fatal accidents, as fog significantly increases the risk of lane violations. Visibility in areas such as Sundar, Manga Mandi, Phool Nagar, and Pattoki dropped to zero to 100 meters.
Meanwhile, Karachi was also hit by intense fog, severely affecting flight operations at Jinnah International Airport. As a result, five international flights were diverted to alternate airports. Flights operated by Pegasus, Etihad Airways, Flyadeal, and Gulf Air were redirected to Muscat, while a Fly Jinnah flight from Jeddah was diverted to Islamabad.
Authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, strictly follow lane discipline, and prefer daytime travel until conditions improve.
