Woof and Answer: My dog sometimes shows foreleg discomfort. Could that affect other parts of his body, too?
Answer: Absolutely! When a dog experiences discomfort in their foreleg, they can accumulate tension in the shoulder area, where the neck meets the body. This can also increase strain in the muscles that connect the front end to the hind end, eventually leading to overall stiffness and discomfort.
Here’s an interesting fact: unlike humans, dogs don’t have a clavicle (collarbone) that connects the forelimb to the body. Instead, the shoulder blade is attached to the trunk by muscles, fascia, and connective tissue—this is called the thoracic sling. This muscular attachment gives dogs the speed, flexibility, and range of motion they need to thrive. Pretty important, right?
Now that you know how crucial this area is, helping your dog release tension here can make a real difference. Watch Jim’s video again, save it for later, or share it with someone whose dog could benefit!
