Toyota / Lexus 3.5L V6 2GR-FE Water Pump Replacement

This video will show you step-by-step on how to replace the water pump on a 2010 Lexus ES350 with the GR-FE engine (2007 - 2018). The procedure should be nearly identical with the Toyota Avalon having the same engine. The coolant level in the reservoir was low and leakage was detected on the backside of the right passenger side wheel (which is directly under the water pump). Starting on or about '06, Toyota began using the GR-FE V6 engine, replacing the MZ-FE, on the Avalon, RAV4, Sienna, Venza and Lexus ES350 and RX350. So if your Toyota or Lexus has the GR-FE engine, the water pump replacement procedure is pretty much the same as the ES350. This is around a $700 job at a Toyota dealership. Expect to pay more with a Lexus dealership. Their hourly rate is higher.

Technical Notes:
1. The right passenger side of the motor should be raise to access the the torque rod mount, the water pump pulley and the water pump.
2. The OEM gasket is a combination of stainless steel and some type of rubber compound. No RTV is needed to provide a leak proof seal between the pump and the motor.
3. Use a wire brush on the motor's water pump mounting surface. Do not use sand paper.
4. The water pump kit should also contain new O rings for the thermostat housing.
5. The 12 mm water pump mounting bolts have rtv sealant on the threads to ensure a leak free seal. Wire brush off the old sealant then lightly coat with new RTV sealant.
6. Applying silicone or di-electric grease on the new O rings and hose connection points will enhance the longevity of the rubber.
