Trump's Tariffs... Paused?

TARIFF BACKFLIP
U.S President Donald Trump's tariff rollercoaster has taken another turn today, with hefty tariffs on dozens of nations put on pause. Yep, after all that tariff talk, President Trump's hit the pause button. Just hours after his "liberation day" tariffs came into effect, he's backtracked big time, announcing a 90 day pause on reciprocal tariffs. Why? The tariff news caused massive ripple effects across the world, and wiped trillions of dollars from the stock market. But it doesn't mean there are now no tariffs. In fact, the White House has instead slapped a 10 per cent "baseline" tariff on almost all countries that send stuff to the US. For some places that were originally given much higher tariff rates, it's welcome news, but for Australia, which was given an original tariff rate of 10 per cent, nothing will change. Then, there's China, which is the only country not to see a pause on tariffs. In fact, President Trump actually hiked up the tariffs on imports from China to 125 per cent, after it hit back earlier with its own 84 per cent fee on US imports. But President Trump says he's open to negotiating and reckons the pause will give him time to do that. In the meantime, the stock market started to bounce back today, and it's left a lot of people scratching their heads as to what's going to happen next.

GOLF SHOT
Irish pro golfer Rory McIlroy and his daughter Poppy have been going viral today, after one very impressive putt. The four-year-old took to the ninth hole of the Masters Par-3 Contest, which is a comp held in the lead up to The Masters Tournament, giving golfers the chance to play on the course with their families. While her ball nearly came to a halt, it caught a slope and ran into the hole, sending the crowd absolutely wild.

GATHER ROUND
Now to Adelaide, where the AFL's Gather Round is kicking off! Gather Round is an action-packed weekend where all 18 teams in the AFL play round 5 here in South Australia. Yep, that means 9 games of footy held across Adelaide Oval, Norwood Oval and Barossa Park! Despite some of the players not being the biggest fan of Gather Round, lots of locals and people from interstate have travelled a long way to get a taste of the action! It'll all kick off tonight when the Adelaide Crows take on the Geelong Cats.

BOA CONSTRICTOR
First up, to a slithery snake on the loose in Sydney! This boa constrictor was spotted slipping down a boat ramp in the suburb of Sylvania. The good news for us is, boa constrictors are not venomous. The bad news is they can still chow down on a bunch of wildlife if left at large.

RAT INFESTATION
Now to piles and piles of rubbish lining the streets of Birmingham in the UK. Workers strikes have meant bin collection hasn't happened here for weeks, which has led to a rise in the local rat population! So much so, that at a recent city council meeting, a giant rat showed up to give them a piece of its mind! Okay, maybe that's just a disgruntled local. Either way, Birmingham council reckons around 17 thousand tonnes of waste and counting is sitting uncollected.

MOUSE STUDY
And finally, do you wanna take a guess at what this is? It's a map of a tiny section of a mouse's brain. And it's also the largest functional brain map ever made. Scientists in the US have been studying the little critter's noggins, by showing them a series of videos and seeing how their brain reacts, in the hopes it can give us clues about human diseases like Alzheimer's.
