My Long Ride in Iowa, first stop was at the Worlds Largest Truck Stop and Truck Museum. Found this quirky Auto Shop in Wilton Iowa just before stopping at the Candy Kitchen which has a small museum of the town Wilton in the back room. Candy Kitchen has been here since 1860 and is the oldest Ice Cream Parlor in the world.
After having a Root Beer from the real Soda Jerk machine I headed to The National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa Iowa, which has been on my Buck List for a long time and it did not disappoint. Tons of motorcycle and a lot of motorcycle history.
I could not find a place to camp or a cheap hotel for the night so I continue on to my next location, The American Gothic Barn in Mt Vernon, Iowa. The American Gothic Barn wasn’t actually painted by the farmer who owns the property but was created by Mark Benesh, a local middle school art teacher, who was commissioned by the barn’s owner to replicate Wood’s masterpiece. Very Cool! 😎
My next stop the future birthplace of Captain James T Kirk in Riverside Iowa. This town has taken Star Trek seriously with a museum (which was closed) and a Star Trek festival they have every year. And last stop for the day, I found cheap motel across the state line into Washington Iowa. The Hawkeye Motel $40.00 for the night was a great find and a great motel for the price.
Today was an awesome day! I did not plan on traveling this far today, but the journey was a lot of fun.
