The aging corrugated roof on the stable had become so brittle that it was decided to replace it with sandwich panels in the form of a trapezoidal sheet metal roof.
When the roof structure was inspected, it was found that the coupling purlins were too weak. In order to supplement the construction to the appropriate cross-sections, around 50 m³ of wood were required. Fortunately, some of the wood that fell victim to the storm in December 2023 could be used for this. The required length of 7m and the large diameters of over 60 cm would have made transport and processing in a conventional sawmill difficult. It was therefore obvious to commission a mobile sawmill to do this work. Michael Kasperer from Salzburg has specialized in this work with his mobile log band saw. The wood is sawn directly on site and the side boards are then trimmed into boards. The waste also remains on site and can be used for the desired purpose.
As can be seen in the video, a tractor with a front loader/wheel loader and a logging trailer with a crane or excavator are recommended to ensure logistics in addition to the manual work.
After a three-month drying period, the roof was uncovered piece by piece by the Neureiter carpentry company, the wooden structure was reinforced and then re-covered.
