The group’s styling, music, and branding feel more pliable for a heterosexual male audience — something that invites them in rather than makes them feel like outsiders.

And I can tell you firsthand why this matters. I have two heterosexual sons who genuinely love K-pop. They know the artistry, the skill, and the quality of the music — but because of the stigma around K-pop and the way masculinity is framed, they rarely play it out loud. That’s the weight of perception, and it’s real.

HYBE creating a group that can connect with that demographic is not just smart business — it’s culture-shifting. It opens the door for more Western men to embrace K-pop without feeling like they have to defend their masculinity for doing so.
