Surviving the Heat on the Alvord Desert: Exploring, Relaxing, Cornhole & Camp Pizza!!

Welcome back to our Alvord Desert overlanding adventure!
This is part two of our trip, and the desert turned up the heat on us today. After waking up to another clear, sunny morning, we set out on a long drive across the vast playa, soaking in those endless desert views that make the Alvord so special. With the temperatures climbing higher than the previous days, shade became our best friend — and the rinse kit kept us cool as we relaxed at camp.

But it wasn’t all about hiding from the heat. We set up the boards for the 1st Annual Cornhole Championship of the Universe and had way too much fun battling it out in the middle of the desert. Later, we fired up our camp oven to make homemade pizzas right at camp — because nothing tastes better than hot, cheesy pizza when you’ve earned it after a long day in the sun. After dinner, we popped some fresh popcorn, kicked back, and turned the playa into our own open-air theater for a cozy movie night under the stars.

The next morning, it was time to pack up and leave this incredible place behind. But before heading home, we made one last essential stop at the legendary Fields Station for their famous blackberry milkshakes — the perfect sweet ending to an unforgettable adventure.

From long drives across the playa, to cooling off in the shade, to cornhole competitions, camp cooking, and a movie night, this day truly had it all. Thanks for following along with us on this journey across the Alvord Desert — we can’t wait to share more adventures with you!
