Scawby is a picturesque village in North Lincolnshire. The church was mainly rebuilt by the Victorians, but the bottom half of the tower remains medieval.
The bellframe is a substantial late 19th century structure, probably built locally with wood from the estate. The only inscription on the treble reads "1628" (the date 1623 recorded elsewhere is a mistake).
A few years ago the belfry was cleaned out, moving parts were replaced and metal frame parts painted. Thus they go pleasantly. As there is only one floor between the bells and ringers they are very clear.
I visited my parents in North Lincolnshire over Christmas and decided to arrange some ringing at a few towers I'd not been to. On the second is Danny who has the channel / wearethebteam
St Hybald is a local Lincolnshire saint, who is buried, as the name suggests at Hibaldstow the next village along (video to come)
