The "B" word in music (that few want to talk about)

Welcome to the Independent Music Minute, I'm Peter Neuman. Why is the "B" word in music such a big deal and makes so many people feel uncomfortable? The "B" word I'm talking about is business. I know thats not what you were thinking. But the fact of the matter is, is when you create something of value by either having a live performance or creating music on a cd, you're making something of value that other people want. Now, when your fans want your music there is a transaction that takes place, they either buy a ticket or they buy a cd. There's an exchange of value going on. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Why talking about business and money makes people, especially in the music industry uncomfortable because it's their art and all of that kind of stuff, is kind of a load of crap if you ask me. The whole notion of the starving artist who needs to be under-appreciated, in my opinion, is way overrated. There is absolutely nothing wrong creating a great live performance and creating great music on cd which your fans will pay you for. That's called earning money with your music.
