Most people think Kendrick, JAY-Z, and Lil Yachty don’t have much in common sonically… but there is one sound that quietly connects all three: cosmic jazz.

That warm, spacey, soul-soaked texture that came out of the 70s fusion era — floating Rhodes, dreamy strings, Moog bass, airy flutes — the kind of sound that feels like time slows down when it hits.

In this video, I break down exactly how I recreated that timeless vibe inside one of my samples from ASTRAL.

I’ll walk you through the keys, strings, Moog sound design, layering tricks, percussion, and arrangement choices that give cosmic jazz its emotional weight. Then I’ll show you how producers from different eras tapped into the same sound to create some of their biggest records.
