Historian Lord Andrew Roberts said Trump is "irrational politically" as his comments are becoming "more and more unhinged".
"We might have to in military terms" declare independence from the United States as there is a "serious danger" we are going to have to create a non-US NATO, he added.
"You can't trust a 99% guarantee - Article 5 has to be either 100% or nothing"
"I think it's quite clear to many people that if president Trump were faced with a Russian incursion into Estonia - he might well not go to war with Russia".
