Here is a brief history of La Calabacita, an animated short from Cuba designed to get kids ready to go to sleep. One of these cartoons would typically air around 8PM, with a version aimed at older children who would already be at school half an hour airing some time later.
Please ignore the aging quality of some, if not most, of these clips (especially the second one). Hopefully they'll get a digital release somewhere (and we'll find more Calabacitas, if there are any). The most recent version, performed by Liuba Maria Hevia, cannot be found here due to copyright issues, but you can find it at Archive.org (https://archive.org/details/la-calaba....
Apparently, at least to all you Cubans out there (you're probably the only ones who know about La Calabacita), it's quite obvious where I got these videos...
