Blessing of the holy oils at the Diocese of Charlotte Chrism Mass 2025

Watch this blessing of the holy oils during the Diocese of Charlotte's annual Chrism Mass, held at St. Mark Catholic Church in Huntersville on April 15, 2025. The Chrism Mass is a special liturgy each year during Holy Week where oils used in the Church’s sacred rituals and sacraments are consecrated and priests renew their promises and commitment to their ministry. Three oils are blessed during this Mass: the oil of the infirm, the oil of catechumens, and sacred chrism. The blessed oils are then distributed to every church in the diocese where they are used in the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, anointing of the sick, and holy orders – a tangible connection with each church to its bishop and the wider Catholic Church.
