Wangshi (Master of the Nets) Garden is one of China's most representative classical gardens. It was first constructed during the Southern Song Dynasty and originally named “Wanjuan Hall” due to the vast collection of ten thousand volumes housed within. The garden's name was initially “Yuyin” (Fisherman's Retreat), but it was renamed “Wanshu Garden” during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty, signifying reverence for the fisherman as a teacher. Both ‘Yuyin’ and “Wanshu” embody the owner's spiritual solace, sentiments, and aspirations found in the garden's landscapes. In 1980, Ming Xuan—a replica of the garden's Dianchunyi courtyard—was completed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In 1997, as one of Suzhou's representative classical gardens, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
