The Seville Alcázar (*Reales Alcázares de Sevilla*) is one of the oldest functioning palaces in Europe.
The queues for Alcázar can be rather long, so it’s best to arrive early in the morning.
The Alcázar of Seville is one of the most outstanding examples of Mudéjar architecture, blending Moorish traditions with Christian heritage. Originally, the Alcázar was a Moorish fortress.
For nearly 700 years, it served as the palace of Spanish kings. The upper rooms of the Alcázar are still used by the royal family as their official residence in Seville.
The Palace of Charles the fifth was built in the 16th century. It is adorned with Gothic elements that contrast with the dominant Islamic style. Here, you’ll get a sense of what it’s like to live as a king surrounded by beauty. :)
Patio de las Doncellas (*Courtyard of the Maidens*) is one of the most iconic spots in the Alcázar. Its name is tied to a legend claiming that the Moors demanded an annual tribute of 100 maidens from the Christian kings.
The Hall of Ambassadors is the heart of the palace. Its dome, shaped like a hemisphere, is made of wood covered in gold leaf, symbolizing the heavens. This hall hosted important meetings and negotiations, with its architecture highlighting its role as a symbol of power.
On the second floor of the palace, you can find rooms displaying tapestries depicting geographical maps and historical scenes.
The cellars of the Alcázar were originally used for storing provisions.
(*Baños de Doña María de Padilla*) are rainwater tanks named after the 16-year-old lover of King Peter the Cruel.

The Gardens of the Alcázar are a haven where peacocks, fountains, and fish in ponds live their best lives. The gardens were created in different eras, resulting in unique stylistic diversity. It’s so green and beautiful here that every tourist wants to take a picture.
At night, the gardens are transformed by an enchanting light show. The illumination creates a truly magical atmosphere. This unique spectacle is available to visitors who purchase tickets for the nighttime show.
We didn’t buy tickets but captured the best shots using our drone. From above, you can fully appreciate the scale and beauty of this place. :)
The Alcázar of Seville undoubtedly belongs on the list of "Spain’s MUST SEE places."
