Welcome to Leonard. A small Texas town. 60 miles from Dallas and Just over 2000 people. We are a quiet farming/bedroom community to DFWs most northern suburbs.
As a result, those suburbs are moving our way. We are seeing growth than we ever have! And that is why we are we are asking to be considered for the Home Town Makeover!
Like most small towns, activities in Leonard happen between the 3A School District and its downtown square. A brand new High School, Athletics Facility, football field, Intermediate school, Jr High and elementary make up a large part of the northern portion of town.
On the opposite side of Leonard you will find the Historic Downtown Leonard Square. Once a booming Cotton stop on the Katy RR Line. Home to hotels, doctors, general stores, furniture stores, and even a college. Today the square is a step back in time with one of a few true soda fountains around, at the Leonard Pharmacy. A Barber, a cafe and a number of other business line the streets.
While many of the buildings have had some improvements made in recent years, there is still work to be done. In the center of the square is the City Hall next door to the Post Office. S surprisingly SMOOTH RED BRICK road surrounds the entire square, making it truly unique.
In the streets between the schools and square, Leonard is lined with old victorian homes, some falling apart and some renovated. Some big some small, a fixer upper dream. A small town with good bones.
The Leonard City Park is home to the Annual Leonard Picnic, now in its 141st year! A Carnival, pageants, fishing, game tournaments, fireworks and music are enjoyed by Leonard and surrounding towns, every third week of July. The Leonard picnic is the biggest event of the year, and everyone looks forward to it, young and old.
With all of these amazing qualities you have to wonder, why isn’t everyone moving there??? Well, They are! And we are doing everything we can to attract the best families that are already moving in from suburbs and out of state.
9. The signs are everywhere, litterally, everywhere. Land that was once farmland is quickly being sold into neighborhood subdivisions. We even got a Dominoes pizza! And it delivers to people who live on dirt roads! And something else will be next to it! What was once a small town is becoming a little city. With no traffic lights….yet….Leonard needs to decide, are we a big town or small town?
Well Garney Construction and the City of Dallas may have made that decision for us. Bois ‘d Arc Lake is currently being built and filled east of Bonham. And that water is being piped directly to Leonard where the Water treatment and Training facility is being constructed a few short miles west of Leonard. The Job site is quite large already making a considerable impact on local economy. When the facilities open, Leonard will host many new faces from nearby and around the world.
With all that being said, Leonard Chamber of Commerce has been working hard to make Leonard a better place to live, and be the place people want to move to. As more and more people find about our small town country we want to put on our best face.
Home Town Makeover, Come to Leonard Texas!!!
