The Bluebell Railway

The excitement I was feeling on this day I cannot put into words, after years of attempting to visit, I finally made it to the famous Bluebell Railway, and it did not disappoint! On the day of visiting (12/April/2025), the railway was in full swing for the Easter Holidays, with 3 trains running, 1 of which was the afternoon tea train. My aim was to visit every station on the railway line and this made the day jam-packed to say the least! The railway blew me away with the amount of rolling stock it had at each station, and being able to ride in some vintage Metrolpolitan coaches was a unique experience that really made the Bluebell feel very special!

We began the day at Sheffield Park, and got there earlyish to see the locomotive come off-shed, we then traveled the entire 11 miles of the line to East Grinstead where we had a look around whilst the train carried out the run-around. This was a satisfactory amount of time for what was there, but definitely not a station I would recommend leaving out, even just for the approach over the viaduct! We then worked our way back down the line stopping at Kingscote, which featured a beautiful museum in a box van, a small cafe kiosk, and just a quaint station to sit back, relax, and let the surroundings take you back in time for a moment or two.
We proceeded down the railway line to Horsted Keynes, which boasts an impressive 4 platforms! It also houses the Bluebells Carraige and Wagon Workshop which can be viewed from a viewing area inside. We then returned to Sheffield Park, playing firefighter on the way. Sheffield Park has the most facilities on the railway, with the model/gift shop, pub, cafe, ice cream kiosk, a small museum, and the Locomotive Shed A.K.A 'Steam Works' which is brilliant if you have kids with you!

An Adult Rover ticket on this day was £27. A bit steep but there were two locomotives running, plenty to see and do, and in peak Easter Holiday Season, so I see this price as understandable.

A very good day and a railway which I feel I need to visit again just to fill in the gaps in my visit! Far too much to see in a single day! I can definitely see why Stepney in Thomas and Friends loved the Bluebell so dearly!
