Introduction
The Objective of this class is to give instructors the tools, substantive confidence and resources to put on a SIRT fire-based, drill focused class to their students. You may already have a list of students that are thirsting for more information, range time may be limited and your students may really need to work on their pistol handling skills as well as developing their fundamentals.
There is certain training you can only do on the range, including:
1) Recoil management,
2) Slide lock stimulus (that feeling of the slide hitting slide like to know you have a paperweight in your hand it must initiate speed reload), and
3) Malfunction recognition and clearance.
These skills can only be trained on the range, but many of the other pistol fundamental skills can be trained off the range very effectively and in some ways better because you're not limited to the stringent safety rules of a range.
A SIRT fire base course bridges the gap between the real world and the range. The range must have a stringent safety policy for good reasons to ensure no catastrophic injury. But we also need training to prepare us for the real world with 360 shooting, high angle shooting, moving no shoots (as will be discussed in the progressor drill below).
