Greetings, my enthusiastic subscribers! Even though I have been uploading 1986 Elton John shows lately, my friend Hans "cornflakesclassic" has requested for me to upload a 1992 show for his birthday (Happy Birthday, Hans!), and this one is from his home country, Austria! This gig is live at the Prater Stadium in Vienna, on June 13, 1992! The quality is good, but a little bit distant, and there are cuts at the beginning and end of several songs (Philadelphia Freedom is severely cut at the beginning, so much so that the verses are gone and it is at the last chorus) and it misses the band intro, but the show has the complete setlist.
IMO, this is one of the best 1992 shows I have listened to, as Elton's voice is in very good shape, and he is having a great time on stage. His audience is also very enthusiastic, cheering wildly and clapping along to a lot of his songs! As is typical of this period, Elton plays a Roland digital piano, which sounds great, but not as good as the acoustic piano he usually plays. Now, here come the song descriptions!
Elton starts the show off with a bang with I'm Still Standing, which is a great version, and he still hits the now-ubiquitous angry birds in the chorus. He then performs a great version of I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues, with great vocals and music. Next is Philadelphia Freedom, but since this is severely cut, I don't know the quality of the whole song (LOL), but there is only the last chorus, so you can hear that Elton did great vocals on the song. Burn Down the Mission is an amazing version, the music is great, and Elton does great vocals. Simple Life is good, but The One is a truly great version. Next is I Don't Wanna Go On, which is one of the best 1992 versions, the music is great and Elton sings very well, plus the backup singers are great as well! Then comes a great rendition of Parts 1 and 2 of Mona Lisas, I love how at the end, Elton and his band play a part from Billie Jean (!) Sorry Seems is another great version, he plays a wonderfully slow version which fits the somber mood of the song. Daniel is a very good version, the music is amazing here, and Elton sings very well here! Blue Avenue is very good, I love the music here. The Last Song is a great version, with very moving vocals and music. Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding is as lovely and musically epic as always, and it is followed by an amazing rendition of Sad Songs, with a long piano solo and some singing with the great backup singers preceding the song! After the song, some enthusiastic cheering occurs, and it only gets wilder when Elton starts Rocket Man, which is a very good 1992 version, the slowness fits the mood of the song well. He then performs The Show Must Go On, a great version, and as it is a Queen song, the crowd just goes wild! Saturday Night's Alright is a very energetic version, with epic music, and the crowd loses it here when the song starts! Following this is a beautiful version of Sacrifice, which is one of the best live versions of the song ever, Elton's voice is absolutely great, and the music is just beautiful. After the song, he thanks Vienna for such a fun show, and proceeds to play a lovely version of Candle in the Wind. Elton then performs a song he hasn't sung on the whole 1992 tour until this point: Your Song! And it is a great version, too! To close the show, he plays the ever-so-sad Song For Guy.
Again, Happy Birthday, Hans, and I hope you enjoy this upload of one of the best 1992 shows!
