Grand Canyon Railway 30th Anniversary (Feat. Doubleheader, OCS, & More!)

On September 21, 2019 the Grand Canyon Railway celebrated their 30th anniversary since their revival on September 17, 1989. The celebration for this was also in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of Grand Canyon National Park. Throughout the year numerous events were held at the park, not just by the railroad.

For the celebration on September 21, the Grand Canyon Railway operated a doubleheader on one of their regular passenger trains using 2-8-0 "Consolidation" #29 and 2-8-2 "Mikado" #4960. In addition, BNSF Railway ran a special OCS (Office Car Special) to the canyon. Once at the canyon visitors had the opportunity to tour 2 of the BNSF passenger cars, "Gerald Grinstein" and "Canyon View", as well as see the main attraction, the Grand Canyon.

In this video we first follow the BNSF OCS on its trip from Williams to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. We then see the doubleheader arrive at the canyon, then a brief slideshow of the Grand Canyon and the BNSF passenger cars, finally chasing the doubleheader back to Williams and turning on the wye.
