CalArts Halloween Party 2024 | Twisted Treasures

Since 1972, the annual CalArts Halloween party has been a longstanding and legendary tradition of campus life. The student-led production is an immersive experience centered on a huge dance party in the Main Gallery. It’s now a dedicated class offered each fall semester, and a labor of love created by students for their peers.

Each Halloween now has a themed-storytelling with a plot that's carried from entrance to exit, including scenic design, lighting, and audio elements. Along the way, student producers learn about marketing, building, budgeting, and working with vendors—all in the name of their peers experiencing their work while having a spooktacular good time.

The 2024 theme was Twisted Treasures, transporting attendees into the hauntingly whimsical world of the Timeless Treasures Toy Store. Upon entering the school, guests were made to feel as though they had become the size of toys, and were trapped inside the shop until the clock struck midnight.

This year’s Halloween party production was brought to life by a team of more than 30 students taking on roles such as stage designers, art directors, actors, carpenters, music coordinators, costume and makeup artists, animators, lighting specialists, and more.

The event is made possible by the generous donation of the Evelyn Sharp Foundation.
