Located in the picturesque village of Loutolim, the 435-year-old Figueiredo House is a grand
heritage mansion that today serves as both a private museum and a homestay. With its
sprawling rooms, ornate interiors, and serene views of lush paddy fields, the mansion offers
a perfect blend of history and tranquillity.

Every corner of this historic home reflects the opulence of an era when Goa thrived as a
major trading hub, notably the 17th and 18th centuries. The estate is divided into two
sections—the Old House and the New House. The Old House, built in 1590 by a Hindu
Brahmin family who fled the bubonic plague, was later renamed after the family converted
to Christianity and adopted the surname Figueiredo.

As recently as in 2016, the Old House was beautifully restored and opened as a homestay
with nine uniquely designed rooms, each named after women from the family who played a
key role in preserving the property after Goa’s liberation in 1961.

The New House, constructed in 1791, with assistance from Jesuit priests, was added as the
family expanded. Today, it serves as a museum, open to visitors for a fee of ₹300. To take a
