How to Become a Great Project Manager - 3 things you need

You want to become a great Project Manager? Excellent! Let me tell you the three things you need...

Competency and Technical Project Management skills are not enough to be a great project manager
You must focus on two things to get there:
1. Keeping learning
2. People skills

I made a long list if everything a good PM needs to develop. But when I went looking for greatness, three things kept coming to the top of my list:

1. Self-control
a. Stay calm in face of adversity
b. Keep your temper
c. Maintain your optimism, enthusiasm, and confidence
d. Determination to succeed (grit) and motivation to keep going
e. Resilience to get up again when you fall

2. Generosity of Spirit
a. Helping, teaching, coaching the people around you
b. Listening to team members and stakeholders
c. Caring for your team and putting them first

d. Servant Leadership

3. Curiosity
a. Insatiable desire to learn and to know more
b. Always-on sense of wonder about what’s new
c. Never settle for OK
d. Observant
e. Critical thinking – challenging orthodoxy, willingness to see the other side of any argument or decision
f. Preparedness to speak out against the majority view
