The Garuda Temple is one of its kind temple for Garuda, the Vahanam of Lord Vishnu. The deity, Garuda, in the temple is carrying Lord Vishnu in the right hand and Goddess Mahalaxmi in the left hand. Also the deity has 8 serpents adored on it.
It is believed that if devotees get abhishekam done for the deity they will be relieved of any of the eight types of Sarpadosham.

The history of the temple dates back to Ramayana. Jattayu, the mighty bird, tries to save Sita from being abducted by Ravana but gets its wings chopped of by the mighty Ravana. The bird crashes to the ground and shouts "Rama Rama". Rama and Laxman who were searching for Sita in the forest come running and see the bird in a pool of blood. The bird informs Rama about Sita being abducted by Ravana. The bird requests Rama to bury it in this place itself. Thus, the place gets the name "Koladevi".

In threetha yuga Sage Brughamaharshi installed the idol of Garuda here and performed puja. Jatayu came as Garuda and resides here now.

This place is located about 17kms from Mulbagulu town. Mulbagulu is a small hamlet adjoining the national highway 75 connecting Bangalore to Palamneer via Kolar. Mulbagulu is 100 kms from Bangalore. On the national highway you need to take the deviation to Mulbagulu town. From the town head towards Mudiyanur Cross. From Mudiyanur cross Koladevi Garuda Temple is just 4 kms. You need to enquire the local people for direction to this temple from Mudiyanur Cross.

There is no facilities for overnight stay in Koladevi as it is a small hamlet. Even availability of good food and restaurants is not sure. It is better to pack your food / eatables during a visit to this place.

You get autos to this place from Mulbagulu Town. I am not sure of the public transport to this place from Mulbagulu.
