The A5, A9, and A8 highways are key routes in Portugal, particularly around Lisbon and central Portugal.
A5 (Autoestrada da Costa do Estoril) connects Lisbon to Cascais along the coast, spanning around 25 km. It is heavily used for commuting, linking Lisbon’s urban areas with the beach destinations along the Estoril Coast.
A9 (CREL), or Lisbon’s Regional Outer Ring Road, forms a northern bypass around Lisbon, linking the A1 (northbound) with the A8 and A5. It reduces congestion within Lisbon by allowing traffic to bypass the city.
A8 links Lisbon with the central and northern regions of Portugal, connecting the capital to Leiria and reaching up to Marinha Grande. This 140-km highway is essential for both regional travel and freight transport through central Portugal.
Together, these highways play a crucial role in easing traffic flow and connecting Lisbon with surrounding areas.
