As part of the Native American Center of Excellence Lecture Series, Terry Maresca, M.D. (Mohawk Tribe, Kahnawake Band), provided an Overview of Indigenous Plant Medicine Use in Western Healthcare Settings.
Dr. Maresca (Mohawk Tribe, Kahnawake Band) is a board-certified family physician who has worked in a variety of Indian health programs since 1987. Her training and clinical work blends both Indigenous plant medicine and cultural practices with Western medicine approaches to health. She is a Clinical Professor at University of Washington (UW) School of Medicine Department of Family Medicine, and faculty with the Center for Indigenous Health.
Dr. Maresca has long-term involvement in post-graduate resident education at Seattle Indian Health Board (1997-) and Puyallup Tribal Health Authority (2014-) She has developed Indigenous health curricula and taught plant medicine seminars in tribal, national, and international settings. She continues volunteer tribal land and waterway restoration work and Indigenous food sovereignty and seed saving efforts.
