The Me In My Imagination

There’s me—
the me I dream of becoming.
I think about it sometimes.
Reality is tangled,
a maze of small complications,
and my curiosity lives somewhere beyond its walls.
I let the pen wander where it pleases;
in my mind, there are no borders.
I ask my willful self:
Where is the real me?

I follow the thread of memory.
Light streaming through a deep forest guides me forward.

A shadow falls.
Over and over,
until weariness sets in.
Countless locked-away emotions
bewilder me, slowly gnawing away inside.

Then I shift the axis, and return to myself.
My ruler is me.
Worlds overlap within me,
and I hold the reins.
With boundless invention,
I move freely toward any place my heart desires.
