The monsoon had been little more than a whimper of late but did it ever wake up! The nearest precipitation gauge at Houghton and the Pantano Wash showed only .75 inches of rainfall through the 19th. In 22 minutes from 2:45 to 3:07 PM we received .75 inches of rain and doubled the rainfall total for the monsoon to 1.50 inches - data from Pima County Regional Flood Control District ALERT System.

The storm packed high winds, drenching rain and street flooding. Southeast Tucson, where I live, was one of the hardest hit areas. It may be the strongest storm I have seen hit my side of town in more than ten years - a good example of a microburst. The Arizona Daily Star
(http://azstarnet.com/news/blogs/monso...)
reports that, according to Tucson Electric Power, seven power poles were down between Harrison and Houghton roads on Irvington Road - a little more than a mile from my location.
If you listen carefully at the 6:13 mark you can hear the wash flowing. The last 1:20 minutes are stills. My JVC GZ-HM860 worked temporarily, amazingly, after taking the brunt of the wind and rain but finally died on the way to the Pantano Wash.
Update August 30: After 24 hours in front of my portable air conditioner set to "dehumidify" mode, the camera began working again and I used it the rest of the 2013 Monsoon season.
