It’s a North v South affair to close day one of the Senior Playoff finals as locals Manchester Magic take on Team Solent Kestrels II.
Fans more than likely had South conference winners Westminster Warriors pencilled in as one of this season’s likely finalists, after they swept their way to a 22-0 regular-season record.
That streak came crashing to a halt against the 15-7 #3 seeds two weeks ago however, with the Kestrels stealing a famous 107-97 semi-final victory to book their ticket to the NBPC.
Sam Akano led the South coast club in that tie, dropping 31 points, and the 6’0” guard is sure to feature heavily again here.
Manchester is a well-known name across the NBL, winning two D1M league titles and four playoff crowns since the 2007/08 season.
The last of their successes, the 2016/17 playoff title, spelled an end to their stint up at the top and by the end of 2018/19, Manchester had been relegated to the second tier following a 2-24 campaign.
Since that low, Magic have regrouped and begun to build once again, though that progress was halted by the cancellation of the 2021/22 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
