One of us got lost! Not admitting anything here but just know that some GPS software doesn't provide the correct directions.

Do not turn off of FL 39. Call the ranger station for directions if needed. If you stay on 39 though, you will find the park.

Alafia River State Park is a Florida State Park. There are 30 campsites in two loops, Lonesome Lake Loop and Lake Alafia Loop. Lonesome Lake Loop is a designated equestrian loop although we only saw one horse there. There are stalls and paddocks nearby on a first come, first serve basis. There isn't a river you can access easily but there are lakes, ponds, and creeks. It is a hiking, biking, and horse back riding destination.

What we love about Alafia River State Park:
1. Large, private sites
2. Lots of pull throughs
3. Interesting hiking, biking, and equestrian trails for all levels.
4. Verizon works
5. Plenty of dog walking opportunities
6. Beautiful park, lots of birds

What we didn't love about Alafia River State Park:
1. Very difficult to secure a campsite here. Park showed full although we saw many sites sitting empty. We wanted to stay an extra night but Reserve America showed full. Frustrating. It is a small campground so naturally availability is limited.

We'll be back! We love this campground. It may be our new favorite in the area.
