About GMU Cyber Resilience Center:
The Center of Excellence in Government Cybersecurity Risk Management and Resilience acts as a strategic partner in federal government cybersecurity and IT modernization efforts, translates state-of-the-art research on technology modernization and cybersecurity in federal practice, collates and disseminates best practices on federal government agency cybersecurity, and fosters U.S. government cybersecurity organizational capacity. The Center brings together experts in IT modernization, cybersecurity, and critical infrastructure systems to develop and provide in-person, hybrid, live virtual, and online executive education, tabletop exercises and workshops for federal government IT and cybersecurity executives and middle managers. In addition, the center leverages Mason’s Institute for Digital Innovation, which integrates transdisciplinary centers and labs with deep interdisciplinary expertise across all facets of cybersecurity research, governance, policy, and education.
AI & Local Government
AI has been increasingly adopted by local governments in recent years and the development of ChatGPT and related models has resulted in an increased focus on the possibilities and risks. Local governments are looking to AI to enhance public services and citizen interactions and also to further decision making and planning in areas such as law enforcement and public benefits distribution. Risks include potential bias, loss of privacy and fraud as well as risks to the public perception of and connection to local government administrators by citizens. Local governments are developing policies and guidelines for AI use as well as passing legislation on local government AI governance.
